Skateboard Eyes

Austin Kleon writes about drawing at a skatepark and learning from the culture of skateboarding.

I also love to listen to skaters talk about how they see the world. Skateboarding seems to reconfigure your molecules and changes the way you look and the kind of attention you pay to the world. (Exactly what we hope for when practicing any art.)

Skateboarding really does alter the way you see the built objects around you. They change in function, if not in form. We lose our functional fixedness, and the terrain takes on a different purpose (one that usually heightens our appreciation of it).
