Tonight’s soundtrack is “Vonal Declosion” by Stereolab from the Margerine Eclipse LP. Stereolab is one of the few bands that I can confidently say has gotten better over time. On Margerine Eclipse, they reigned in some of the excesses that permeated their earlier work. I once saw Stereolab live, and they droned on at length, prompting one eager concert goer to say, “people don’t even understand what was going on up there.” I’m glad the band grew out of some of those pretentions (at least, on their later recordings) and left us with their space-age bachelor pad vibes and catchy hooks.
